The FTSE 250, a sub-index of the FTSE Actuaries All-Share Index, is made up of the 250 largest UK companies after those listed on the FTSE 100. Hence, FTSE 250 share prices are actually those of the 101st to 350th largest companies listed on the London Stock Exchange. Investment companies are also included in the FTSE 250.
FTSE 250 companies are listed by market cap and must meet certain standards to be included.
FTSE, a company jointly owned by the Financial Times and the London Stock Exchange, work out the FTSE 250 daily. In addition to FTSE 250 share prices, FTSE Group produces over 60,000 indices over 48 countries.
To be eligible to list FTSE 250 share prices, FTSE states 'companies must have a full listing on the London Stock Exchange with a Sterling or Euro dominated price on SETS or SETSmm, or a firm quotation on SEAQ or SEATS, subject to eligibility screens'.
